Emotion at Ryan Gracie’s burial

Publish date: December, 18, 2007

Located above the chapels of the vigil, the tomb where Ryan Gracie now rests stands out among the others.

The adoration of the around 200 people present at the black belt’s wake at São João Batista Cemetary, in Rio de Janeiro, manifested itself in the large quantity of flowers carefully placed over the tomb. A heart of white and yellow flowers, as well as wreaths sent by those unable to make it, was proof that Ryan Gracie would be missed.

During the burial, documented by television crews from Globo TV and Record TV, everyone was overcome with emotion. Father, Robson, and sister Flavio were among those most affected. At the moment the coffin was laid in the grave, at around 4pm, the silence of the cemetery was broken by a round of clapping. More than an hour after the ceremony ended, friends and fans of Ryan, buried in his gi and black belt, continued to visit the grave.
