Coming out a winner in a hard fight at M-1 Challenge 4 "Battle on the Neva 2" Mikhail Malyutin shares his impression of the event, his own bout and reveals the future plans.
Greetings with a great victory! How do you feel right now?
I appreciate everyone's support. I feel OK, a bit tired and my shoulder is injured.
Can you tell us something about the fight, about how strong was your opponent? Had he surprised you somehow?
The fight went exactly the way I wanted. My contestant was very good, a strong, qualified fighter, but actually I expected much more from him.
How did you find a way out of dangerous situations?
I expected to spend the fight in parter and that is the reason why at my trainings I used to work a lot on my wrestling skills. When he captured me and when I got into dangerous situations I felt absolutely sure he could do nothing serious to me and I was also in full control of the situation waiting for the suitable moment.
Did you have a certain plan for this fight? If yes, then did you realize it?
Yes, I did have a plan. I could avoid opponent’s attacks to my legs, dominated in position and felt myself confident. The second round went under my control.
Are you completely satisfied with your fight or do you think you can improve your fight style?
Yes, I am absolutely satisfied and that was the second tournament where they called my fight the best fight of the night. The only thing I didn’t like was that I let my adversary get behind my back for the second fight, so I think I should improve my defense skills.
What about the tournament in general? What can you say about its organization?
Everything was at the top level, wish it was broadcast live ‘cause there was a lot of people who wanted to watch this tournament. The fights were really impressive and among all the M-1 Challenge events this one was the most spectacular.
Can you tell us about your team success because Red Devil team had defeated group leader with a disastrous score.
Me and the guys had a really good practice sessions in Stary Oskol. We had a very conscientious attitude to the tournament, we knew that we would have fights against leading team so our target was to win in the most assured way. In general we pulled the target off successfully.
What are you plans for the near future?
I have no certain plans yet because my training session and fight plan is really charged so I have to think over it.
It is known that you are going to take part in the tournament in Israel with the Desert Combat organization and you are promised that in case of winning this next fight you will face off against the champion of the organization in the battle for the title. Can you tell us please about what do you know about your opponent and how are you going to train for it?
I am going to train in Kislovodsk. I know enough about my contestant to prepare and win the fight. Thereafter I hope to get champion title and bring Desert Combat belt to Saint-Petersburg.
Mikhail, thank you very much for the interview and good luck!
